Matt Odgers: Co-Founder & Director of Operations at Opelon LLP

Matt Odgers is the co-founder and Director of Operations at Opelon LLP, a Carlsbad, California estate planning firm. Matt leads the firm’s operations, technology, marketing, and client experience, the business engine that lets Opelon’s attorneys focus on delivering outstanding legal work to San Diego County families.

Matt is a licensed California attorney (State Bar No. 290722) but does not practice law at Opelon. His legal practice is housed at Odgers Law Group, a separate firm handling dental practice transactions statewide. All legal matters at Opelon are handled by Managing Partner Owen Rassman and the firm’s attorney team.

Role at Opelon LLP

As Director of Operations, Matt leads the non-legal side of the firm:

• Firm operations & systems — Building the processes and technology stack that let Opelon deliver consistent, high-quality service at scale.
• Client experience — Designing every touchpoint from the first consultation through plan completion so families feel informed, supported, and in control.
• Marketing & business development — Growing the firm’s reach across North County San Diego and building referral relationships with financial advisors, CPAs, and real estate professionals.
• Team development — Recruiting, onboarding, and supporting the people who make the firm work.

Matt is a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, an intensive entrepreneurship incubator. That training informs his approach to running a law firm like a modern service business — with transparent pricing, responsive communication, and systematized processes for even the most complex estates.

Business Development & Firm Leadership

Beyond client work, Matt leads Opelon’s business development, marketing, and internal operations. He has been instrumental in growing the firm’s reach across North County San Diego and building referral relationships with financial advisors, CPAs, and real estate professionals. Matt believes that business growth and genuine client service are not separate goals — they reinforce each other.

Background & Second Firm

Matt is also the founder of Odgers Law Group, a separate California law firm where he practices as an attorney handling dental practice transactions: mergers, acquisitions, sales, associate buy-ins, and partnership formations, for dentists, veterinarians and physicians across the state. That firm operates independently from Opelon, with its own clients, staff, and practice focus. It is through Odgers Law Group that Matt provides legal services.

Education

Matt earned his Juris Doctor and Certificate in Global Legal Studies from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California. Before law school, he graduated from Purdue University (Boiler Up!) in three years with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Forensic Science.

Matt’s international legal education includes studying International Law in Hangzhou, China and attending the Rule of Law in China conference in 2011. Following his undergraduate studies, he spent a year in Seoul, Korea teaching English before beginning law school.

Matt is also a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, an entrepreneurship and business growth incubator.
